The drive up the Karakoram Highway was spectacular, and our driver knew every viewpoint, including the spot where the three mountain ranges meet. Sunset from Duikar was the highlight of the whole trip. Standing at Khunjerab Pass with snow in September felt unreal.
Baltit and Altit forts were beautifully kept, and the Hoper Glacier day was better than I expected. Babusar Pass was still closed, so we went via Chilas, which made for a long day, but the team explained the change well in advance.
Thirteen days sounded long, but every day was different: Shangrila and the Kachura lakes, the cold desert at Shigar, then the whole of Hunza. Deosai was full of wildflowers when we crossed. Hotels were simple but clean, and the driver was careful on the mountain roads.
The jeep ride from Raikot Bridge is not for the faint-hearted, but the first view of Nanga Parbat from Fairy Meadows made it worth it. The walk to Beyal Camp and on to base camp was steady, and the bonfire and stars at Beyal were unforgettable.
A perfect long-weekend trip with my family. The jeep to Saif ul Malook was the kids’ favourite, and Lulusar Lake on the way to Babusar Top was so calm. Siri Paye on the last day was green and quiet, a great end to the tour.
Walking up the Baltoro past Paiju and Urdukas, with the Trango Towers and then Concordia opening up, is something I will never forget. The kitchen crew produced proper meals every night on the glacier, and the acclimatisation days were well judged.
Seeing K2 from base camp was the dream, and the guide made sure our group moved at a sensible pace. Bad weather delayed our flight out of Skardu by a day, so build in a buffer as they advise.
We timed the trip for Chilam Joshi and were welcomed to watch the dancing in Bumburet and Rumbur. Our guide explained what we could and could not photograph, which made us feel comfortable. The drive through the Lowari Tunnel was easier than I expected.
The Swat Motorway made the first day easy, and the chairlift at Malam Jabba gave amazing views. The 4x4 ride to Mahodand Lake and the stop at Matiltan Waterfall were the highlights. Fresh trout in Kalam was excellent.
Our guide brought Lahore Fort to life, and the Shish Mahal was stunning. The tile work inside Wazir Khan Mosque was my favourite part of the day, and tea on a rooftop at sunset overlooking the old city was the perfect finish.
I asked for a trek that matched a moderate level of fitness and they suggested Fairy Meadows. The guide checked our gear on the first day and kept the pace comfortable through the pine forest. Well organised from start to finish.
Launching from Eagle’s Nest with Rakaposhi straight ahead is something I will remember forever. The pilot gave a clear safety briefing and the landing near Karimabad was smooth. Worth every rupee.
The team planned our itinerary around our dates and replied quickly to every question before we travelled. On the road, the driver was patient and safe, and every hotel matched what we had been told.
My first trip to Pakistan and I felt looked after the whole time. A couple of drives were longer than expected because of road works, but the team kept us informed and adjusted the plan for the day.
