A 10-day journey from Islamabad to the Kalash Valleys, Garam Chashma and Booni, over Shandur Pass to Phandar Valley and Khalti Lake, then Gilgit and a flight back.
This 10-day journey takes you through some of the most culturally rich and naturally spectacular regions of Northern Pakistan. Starting in Islamabad, the capital known for its greenery and modern architecture, you head towards Chitral and the mystical Kalash Valleys, home to the indigenous Kalash people.
The tour continues through serene mountain towns, hot springs and alpine meadows, taking you over the legendary Shandur Pass, the highest polo ground in the world, before descending into the breathtaking Phandar Valley and serene Khalti Lake. You will also explore historical Buddhist landmarks in Gilgit before flying back to Islamabad.

On arrival at Islamabad International Airport, our driver will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, rest or explore the calm surroundings of Islamabad, a modern city known for its wide roads, Margalla Hills and organized layout. Overnight stay in Islamabad.
After breakfast, travel north along the Chitral–Dir Road through Shringal, Upper Dir and Qashqaray. The highlight of the day is the Lowari Tunnel, which connects Dir with Chitral, cuts travel time significantly and offers stunning mountain views. Reach Ayun, a charming village close to the Kalash Valleys, in the evening. Overnight stay in Ayun.
Travel to Bumburet Valley, home of the Kalash people, passing through Anish, Brun, Batrik and Karakul villages. Explore the valley, visit the Kalasha graveyard and the Kalash Museum, and learn about their ancient beliefs, festivals and lifestyle. Overnight stay in the Kalash Valley.
Leave for Garam Chashma, a hidden gem in Chitral District, on a road through Rondur and other mountain villages. Garam Chashma is famous for its warm sulphur springs, believed to have healing properties. Visit the natural pool inside the Injigaan Hotel and spend the evening relaxing in the valley. Overnight stay in Garam Chashma.
Drive towards Booni, a peaceful settlement surrounded by snow-capped peaks, stopping for lunch at Mori. Explore Booni, then head to Qaqlasht Meadow, a high-altitude grassland with panoramic mountain views, popular with nature lovers and photographers. Overnight stay in Booni.
An early departure towards Phandar Valley, with a photo stop at Parwak against the backdrop of the Hindu Kush. Travel through Mastuj, known for its fertile fields and friendly locals, then cross the legendary Shandur Pass (3,700 m), famous for the annual Shandur Polo Festival. Drive through Langar Valley and villages such as Buyan Deh and Teru before reaching the pristine Phandar Valley. Overnight stay in Phandar.
Start with a morning walk in Phandar Valley, surrounded by blue rivers and forests. Continue to Khalti Lake, a peaceful alpine lake where you can try trout fishing, then explore Gupis, known for its traditional stone houses and warm hospitality. The day ends in Gahkuch, the administrative hub of Ghizer District. Overnight stay in Gahkuch.
Depart for Gilgit and visit Kargah Nala, home to the Kargah Buddha, a 7th-century rock carving that reflects the region’s Buddhist history. Explore the nearby Henzel Valley and its market, then stroll through Gilgit’s bazaars, such as Gari Bagh and NLI Market, and visit Chinar Bagh to admire its centuries-old trees. Overnight stay in Gilgit.
You will be dropped off at Gilgit Airport for your flight to Islamabad and transferred to your hotel on arrival. Enjoy free time to walk in the markets or dine at a local restaurant. Overnight stay in Islamabad.
After breakfast, we will drop you at Islamabad International Airport for your return flight.

The route is approximate. Trekking sections are on foot and won't show as a road on the map.
Yes, it is designed for all age groups. There are long drives but no strenuous treks. People with mobility issues or altitude sensitivity should consult a doctor before travelling.
Most roads are paved but can be narrow or under repair. The Lowari Tunnel, Shandur Pass and mountain routes are generally safe in summer but may close during heavy rain or snow. A 4x4 vehicle is used for safety.
Yes, vegetarian meals can be arranged on request. Options may be limited in remote areas, so carry personal snacks or dry food if you have specific dietary needs.
Mobile service is limited; SCOM works best in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kalash and Garam Chashma may have a weak or no signal. Internet is usually available in hotels, but not always reliable.
A mix of light and warm clothing: breathable clothes for daytime travel, warm jackets, thermals and socks for the evenings, and a rain jacket, sunblock, hat and hiking shoes for walking around valleys and springs.
